Through the memory
PAMĚTÍ / JOSEFÍNA DUŠKOVÁ
Exhibition Curator Lucie B. Šiklová
The exhibition has presented the current work of sculptor Josefína Dušková. Her latest works and the conception of this entire exhibition were inspired by Konojedy Castle, its revitalization, and the stories and impressions evoked by the crumbling structures found in the surrounding area.
The artist’s connection to old buildings and monuments has accompanied her since the beginning of her creative career. In her work, she often turns to the stories of old places, to the traces left by time and its effects. She has always been fascinated by places charged with powerful energy; thus, she has often drawn inspiration from abandoned or crumbling sites where we can only sense past life through the traces or imprints left behind.
The curatorial selection of works also includes older pieces directly related to this theme.
The artist has long been engaged with imprints that reflect processes of destruction and decay, working with various conceptions of time. In her work, she often uses found materials that are corroding or otherwise disintegrating, which allude to the passage of time. These materials are given new life by being transformed into objects that relate to human memories and present our transience and fragility. Endless creation and destruction. Decaying ruins and their new life, the energy of these places, memories, imprints, the memory of space, and the forgotten stories of human destinies.
